Letter: GM dealership in Libby not being shut down

| June 4, 2009 12:00 AM

Dear Editor:

As the owner of Libby’s GM dealership, Cabinet Mountain Chevrolet, I would like to address the subject of our status as a Chevrolet dealership.

As many of you know, I did receive a letter from GM regarding our contractual relationship with them. GM will allow us to remain a Chevy dealership until at least November 2010. We are on a list of dealerships which may lose their franchise at that point, but GM has made no final decisions at this time.

I have prepared and sent a response to GM explaining that there would be no sales or warranty representative in our area with the closest GM dealer 100 miles away. I also explained that we are the only GM dealer in our entire county with the population being in excess of 20,000.

Many of you recognize the need for the dealership to continue to be here to provide new Chevrolet vehicles, warranty GM models and provide jobs to the community. You have asked how you can help, so I am providing some contact information for you to make your opinions heard.

The Montana Auto Dealers Association is urging dealers as well as individuals to contact our Congressmen and ask for their support in opposing dealership reductions.

In closing, I just want to emphasize the fact that we are not closing and we are not being shut down. We will be here to service our community hopefully for many years and will remain your Chevrolet dealership for as long as possible.

Here are the phone numbers for our senators and representatives:

• Sen. Max Baucus, 800-332-6106.

• Sen. Jon Tester, 202-224-2644.

• Rep. Denny Rehberg, 202-225-3211.

Or, for information, call Chevrolet customer assistance, 800-222-1020.

Richard Hoyer, Cabinet Mountain Chevrolet owner,

Libby
