The Libby American Legion baseball team split a doubleheader at Mission Valley on Saturday. The Loggers dropped the opener, 9-4, but won the nightcap, 6-5, in Polson.

Libby scored three runs in the top of the first in the opening game but managed just one more the rest of the way. Mission Valley tied the game by the bottom of the third and took the lead for good in the fifth.

Colt Cannon suffered the loss at pitcher.

In the second game, Libby’s Derek Willis cranked a three-run shot in the seventh inning to give the Loggers a win. Dustin Morningstar got the win at pitcher in relief of Chris Herbig. Willis went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Libby goes to 8-11 and is not scheduled to take the field again until June 8 at Kalispell.
