The Libby Loggers baseball team opened the Western A District tournament on Thursday with a 16-0 rout over the Bitterroot Bucs.

Libby entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed out of the north. The North's top seed – Kootenai Valley Rangers out of Eureka – was upset by the Missoula Mavericks, 8-7.

Dustin Morningstar tossed a three-hitter with six strikeouts.

At the plate, Chris Herbig and Joe Coker each went 3-for-5. Morningstar and Colton Cannon added two hits apiece. Herbig had seven total bases – single, double and home run – and three RBIs. Cannon also drove in three. Derek Willis hit a homer as well.

The Loggers are scheduled to play Friday night at 7.
