Six crews continued working Monday to contain a fire near Lindy Peak that had consumed 20 to 30 acres of forest land since its discovery Saturday evening.

“With the dozers working the fire and the crew up all (Sunday) night, it’s looking like it won’t get too much bigger, hopefully,” said Mickey Carr, dispatcher for Kootenai National Forest’s fire desk. “We’ve got to be careful that the heat and the wind doesn’t make it too much bigger.”

The fire is located about eight miles north of Libby.

The fire, which is the second largest in the county this year, poses no danger to homes or other structures, Carr said Monday.

Two local crews and four others from Kalispell and Idaho continued fighting the fire through Monday, which was believed to have been sparked by lightning. Two helicopters performed bucket work to support the effort.

The county’s largest forest fire this season occurred in early June along the Montana and Canadian border near Caribou Mountain. Not nearly as many resources were used to quell the 85-acre fire because it was not torching the forest like this most recent fire, Carr said.
