Dorothy K. 'Dot' Smith

Dorothy K. “Dot” Smith, 71, died July 15, 2009 at Libby Care Center.

She was born in Modesto, Calif., to Paul and Hermina Carroll and grew up in Skamokawa, Wash.

In 1956, she married William “Hank” Smith and moved to Texas. The couple had seven children together. She later remarried to Ernest R. Skaggs in 1968. She moved to Clatskanie, Ore., and had two more children.

Mrs. Smith enjoyed gardening, camping, going for walks on the beach and in the rain, watching thunderstorms, and being with family – especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Carroll; mother, Hermina Carroll; a son, Herman L. Smith; and granddaughter, Treva Skaggs.

Survivors include her sister, Evelyn Carroll and husband Calvin of Washington; brothers, Paul C. Carroll and wife Patricia; and Daniel Carroll  – both of Washington; five sons, Donald E. Smith of Joshua, Texas; Steven W. Smith of Idaho; Robert E. Smith of Knappa, Ore.; Greg H. Smith and wife Kelly of Knappa, Ore.; and Craig E. Smith of Oklahoma; three daughters, Smoky-Li “Betty” Bond and husband Richard of Joshua, Texas; Veronica Coy and husband Ed of Dillsboro, Ind.; and Virginia Rice and husband Rex of Libby; and numerous grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later date in Skamokawa.

Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home of Libby handled local arrangements.
