District 7-B leader Eureka shot out to a 15-3 lead in the first quarter en route to a 52-32 victory on Saturday over Troy.

The Lions also came out strong at the beginning of the second half. After leading 26-14 at the break, Eureka doubled up the Lady Trojans, 14-7, in the third to put the game out of reach.

Troy coach Cory Andersen said it appears that senior Alicia Anderson will be out at least a couple of weeks after suffering a sprained ankle against Libby. As such, the Trojans lost some depth.

“That gets us down to a seven-person rotation and we tend to run out of gas a little bit in the second half,” Andersen said. “That was part of it. The other part was we struggled to stop Newell, their big girl.”

Troy senior Molly Harpole scored nearly half of her team’s offensive output with 15 points. Sophomore Jackie Pepiot scored nine.

Mariah Newell had a big night for Eureka with 25 points and Stephanie Vogelman added 10.

Troy is sitting in fourth with a 1-3 league record and is now 5-5 overall. The Trojans play Thursday at Thompson Falls and Saturday at Superior.
