Eureka scores at buzzer to defeat Troy
The Western News
Jesse Thomson’s buzzer-beating layup gave Eureka a 45-44 upset over Troy on Saturday in District 7-B action in the Lions’ home gym.
Just a few seconds before Thomson’s game-winner, Trojans senior Jesse Day had given Troy a 44-43 lead on a jumpshot. But Eureka’s Ryan Holder found Thomson on a full-court pass to give the Lions their second victory in the conference and overall.
The loss hurt Troy in the standings. The Trojans dropped to 2-2 and out of a first-place tie with Thompson Falls and Plains. Troy is now tied for third with Eureka.
The Trojans will have a big game at home on Thursday against Thompson Falls. Troy defeated Thompson Falls earlier this season on the road.
Aaron Palmer scored 11 points and Shado Garrett added 10 to lead the Trojans offensively. Day and Clayton Kyriss each scored nine.
On Eureka’s end, Marcus Pluid poured in 24 points and Andrew Sanders scored 10.
Troy’s Thursday games against Thompson Falls gets under way with non-varsity action at 4:15 p.m. The Trojans then step out of the conference on Saturday with a road trip to Superior.
