Lloyd D. Williamson

Lloyd Douglas Williamson, 69, a longtime Libby resident, died from natural causes on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009 at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital in Libby.

He was born July 2, 1939 in Portland, Ore., to Lloyd and Florence Friend Williamson. He moved to Libby at age 11. He was active in high school sports and played on the first American Legion baseball team in Libby. They won a state championship in 1955.

He graduated from Libby High School with the Class of 1958. During and after high school, he worked for his dad at the Chevron gas station.

Mr. Williamson served in the U.S. Army from April 7, 1960 to May 18, 1962. He returned to Libby and purchased the Chevron Oil Bulk Plant from his uncle, which he operated for a number of years. He had also worked for Granite Concrete, Asarco and Champion International, subsequently Stimson Lumber Co., where he retired. 

He married Sharon Shadel on June 25, 1977 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed taking long walks with his dog, woodworking, all sporting events, and visiting with and helping people. 

Survivors include his wife, Sharon, of Libby; three children, Jennifer Allred and husband Ben of Georgia; David Williamson and wife Heidi of Utah; and Leigh Williamson of Corvallis, Ore., grandchildren, Ainsley Allred of Georgia; and Drew and Owen Williamson of Utah; a sister, Marie Slauson and husband Dale of Libby; and a niece and nephew.

Services will be Friday, Jan. 8 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will follow at the City of Libby Cemetery.
