Babe Ruth Baseball in Libby plans signups

Babe Ruth Baseball in Libby announced that registration is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3 and Wednesday, March 4 at 6 p.m. in the Libby High School lobby.

The league is for boys ages 13-15.

Troy School Board plans to meet on Monday

The Troy School Board will hold a special meeting on Monday, March 2, at the district administration building.

The agenda includes a working session on a community survey and other planning issues.

School Board seeks candidates for vacant seats

The Libby School District announced an upcoming election that includes four vacancies.

Three of the vacant seats are for three-year terms. The fourth is a one-year term.

For those interested, pick up a nomination petition form from the school district’s business office at 724 Lousiana Ave. The deadline to submit a petition is 3 p.m. on March 26.

The election is scheduled for May 5.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary sponsoring scholarship

The Libby VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 1548 is sponsoring the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Awards contest.

The contest is open to all students in grades 9-12 enrolled in public school or home-schooled. National prize amounts are $10,000 for first, $5,000 for second and $1,500 for third and fourth. The deadline to enter is March 31.

The local VFW awards bonds to the top three winners. First place moves on to the state level with the opportunity to move on further to the national contest.

Register for Troy youth baseball, softball

Troy’s youth baseball and softball program has signup sheets available at the elementary and high school offices. The program will features teams for ages 5-15.

The registration deadline is Friday, Feb. 27.

The program is also looking for umpires.

Traumatic brain injury group plans meeting

A traumatic brain injury support group plans to meet on March 17 in Libby and March 18 in Troy, the North Valley Support Group announced.

The group will meet at 5:30 p.m., on March 17 at the Families in Partnership offices, 83 Collins Ave., in Libby, and at 6 p.m. on March 18 at the Kootenai Senior Center in Troy.

The meetings are intended for people with brain injuries and family members to meet and talk about education, understanding and resources. Support groups provide confidentiality and empathy of experiences of other head injury survivors.

March is Traumatic Brain Injury Awareness Month. The move “Regarding Henry” will be part of the Libby meeting. In Troy, Sherrie Jackson will give a presentation entitled, “Living With Seizures.”

Pets For Life sale set for Friday, Saturday

Kootenai Pets For Life is planning to stage its Spring Rummage Sale on Friday, Feb. 27 from 5-8 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 28 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Ponderosa Room in Libby.

Tax volunteers available to help with filing

AARP Tax-Aide volunteers will be on hand each Thursday from Feb. 5 through April 9 to help people in the low- to moderate-income range with special attention to those ages 60 and older.

Volunteers can help prepare federal and state tax returns and can also assist with electronic filing.
