It’s been two months since Libby City Council made its last member appointment, and next week the council will start advertising to fill another vacancy.

Charlene Leckrone, the council’s president, turned in her letter of resignation to Mayor Doug Roll at Tuesday’s city council meeting.

Leckrone said she is thrilled to be moving to Mt. Vernon, Wash., where her family resides. She has been preparing for the move.

“It was a long time coming,” she said, adding that her home has been up for sale now for a year.

In other news at Tuesday’s meeting:

• Roll stated that the council is not considering contracting the city police department with the county.

• Council members disagreed on whether or not stop signs should be placed at the Main Avenue and Cedar Street Extension intersection. They will discuss the matter further at next meeting.

• Tom Wood requested that the council pass a resolution of support for the Libby Main Street Program. City Attorney Chuck Evans will write up a formal document.

• The council voted unanimously for a new niche wall at the city cemetery. One of the conditions is that the city will not be responsible for its maintenance.

• The council’s water and sewer committee stated that it will have a recommendation next meeting for how to spend water fund money from the settlement with International Paper Co.

• The council will decide next meeting whether or not to change Libby Police Officer Terry Watson’s employment status from temporary to permanent. The status will allow him to receive health insurance. Chief of Police Clay Coker requested the change since one of his permanent officers resigned last week.

• There will be a Planning Board Meeting on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
