STOKR rider applications online

Rider applications for STOKR (Scenic Tour of the Kootenai River) are currently available online, organizers of the annual Libby-area event announced.

But the application form will only remain online until Feb. 28. To access it, go to: www.stokr.org . After the application goes offline, additional copies will be available at the Montana Athletic Club.

Applications are due by March 7.

The local ride, scheduled for May 9-10, is the biggest fundraiser sponsored by the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate.

Numbers are limited to 400 riders because of available motel space and because of the number of volunteers needed to support the ride.

Stakeholders to fill board positions Feb. 26

The Kootenai Forest Stakeholders Coalition will hold its annual meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26 at Flathead Valley Community College–Lincoln County campus in Libby.

The meeting’s agenda includes the appointment of four people to open board positions. As of late last week, 17 nominations had been received. Bylaws state that the board shall consists of a minimum of seven and a maximum of 15 voting stakeholder members.

Also on the agenda are information items on Young-Dodge, Sparring Bull project, Flower Creek Reservoir and the Meadows and Galton project. A Cabinet District report, salvage sale protocol and a request for support on a specific amount of biomass for energy projects will also be discussed.

Kindergarten registration, preschool screening scheduled in Troy

Troy Public Schools will hold kindergarten registration from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27 at Morrison Elementary School.

Parents or legal guardians are asked to bring a copy of the child’s birth certificate and immunization record.

The school will also hold a free preschool screening on Friday, Feb. 27 from 8:30 a.m.-noon at the Troy Methodist Church. Professionals trained in the areas of speech, language, cognitive, fine and gross motor skills, vision and hearing will screen children.

Parents of children from birth to age 5 are encouraged to take advantage of the activity.

Animal shelter fundraiser set for this Friday

Kootenai Pets For Life is planning to stage its Spring Rummage Sale on Friday, Feb. 27 from 5-8 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 28 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Ponderosa Room in Libby.

Libby youth baseball, softball registration set

Libby youth baseball has scheduled registration sessions for this coming season.

The local league, which is affiliated with Babe Ruth League, has teams for boys ages 5-12 and girls ages 5-14. Birth certificates are required for all new players and a copy must be available upon registration.

Remaining signup dates are Feb. 26 at Asa Wood (2:30-6:30 p.m.) in the front lobby, and March 3 and March 5 at Libby Middle School (3-7 p.m. both days) in the front lobby.

Register for Troy youth baseball, softball

Troy’s youth baseball and softball program has signup sheets available at the elementary and high school offices. The program features teams for ages 5-15.

The registration deadline is Friday, Feb. 27.

The program is also looking for umpires.

Kootenai Valley Babe Ruth plans to hold meeting

Kootenai Valley Babe Ruth has scheduled a meeting for Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. in the “Timber Room” at Libby High School.

On the agenda will be the election of officers. Coaches and interested parties are asked to attend.

Athletic club receives Silver Sneakers designation

The Montana Athletic Club in Libby was recently designated a Silver Sneakers Fitness Program facility.

Community members with qualifying Humana Gold Choice Medicare supplement plans are eligible for a free membership to the club through the Silver Sneakers program.
