The Libby High School boys basketball team got into a hole early and couldn’t climb out in a 58-38 loss to Ronan on Saturday.

The Logger loss dropped the team to 6-3 in the Northwestern A to leave Whitefish all alone in first. Ronan, meanwhile, jumped ahead of Columbia Falls to fourth in the standings. Libby will end the regular season on Saturday at Polson while Ronan plays at Whitefish Friday and Columbia Falls Saturday.

Libby, Polson and Ronan are all vying for second place in the conference.

The Chiefs got out to an 8-3 lead in the first quarter and were up 18-10 at the break. Ronan then revved up its offense for 40 points in the second half.

Conner Benson scored 14 and Joel Fuller added 11 for the Loggers, now 12-5 overall.
