Benson named Shrine Bowl alternate
Libby High School senior T.J. Benson was named as an alternate to next summer’s 64th annual Montana East-West Shrine Game.
The game features the top graduating seniors from around the state. It is scheduled to be played on July 17 in Butte. If Benson plays, he would be competing for the West squad.
Benson made the all-Northwestern A team at both receiver and linebacker. Benson was also included on the Class A state football squad at receiver.
Benson finished the season with 36 receptions for 705 yards and six touchdowns, including a 90-yarder against Corvallis. He was also the Loggers’ leading rusher with 308 yards and four touchdowns. Benson’s 10 touchdowns led the team in scoring.
The West defeated the East 20-17 in overtime on July 18 in Great Falls. The victory ended a five-game losing streak for the West in the all-star classic. Overall, the East leads the series, 36-27.
