Letter: Mayor speaks out on Orr's actions
Dear Editor:
We have among us a council member, D.C. Orr, who has systematically attacked the employees of this city, Beth Burrell, Dan Thede, John Knudsen, Corky Pape, even some on this council to name a few.
He uses inuendo, fabrication, half-truths and outright lies to defame the integrity of anyone who disagrees with him or gets in his way … all because of his hatred for the former mayor Tony Berget.
He will stop at nothing to get at the former mayor, including accusing me of fraud, cronyism and improper awarding of no-bid contracts. All of those are lies intended to smear my reputation and question my integrity. He has even used others to attack me in the print media.
Now he has set his sights on our current city clerk-treasurer, Glena Hook – a lady who has done an outstanding job for this city. This vicious attack is inexcusable.
He has filed what I believe to be a false sworn statement with the justice of the peace to procure a bogus restraining order – an order accusing her of intimidation and stalking. His actions have exposed this city to serious litigation that could cost tens of thousands of dollars for harrasement and a hostile work environment.
His dishonorable actions have caused me to demand that council begin special hearings to investigate Mr. Orr for official misconduct in office for the purpose of removing him from office per Montana State Code 7-5-4103.
If this council will not remove him, I will begin the recall process. He must be removed from office in his zeal to expose some imagined corruption and consipiracy. He has brought unneeded disruption to this council.
Most recently, Mr. Orr has accused Ms. Hook of criminal accounting practices and me of covering it up. This is totally false and a complete lie. It just shows that Mr. Orr does not understand the budget or governmental accounting. You are a dishonorable individual, Mr. Orr.
Doug Roll
Libby mayor
(Editor's note: In fairness to Libby councilmember D.C. Orr regarding Doug Roll's letter to the editor, The Western News contacted him and asked if he would like to submit a letter to appear in this edition. He declined and said he would prefer to write a letter if he so chooses at a later date).
