Letter: Havre resident sees letter writer's point
Dear Editor:
I have to solidly agree with the letter from A.J. Haflich about the police. This is a subject just like racism: When you bring it up you will receive a wave of sarcasm and criticism without the opposition even looking at the problem.
My office is in my basement and I do not hear what is going on above. The local police (Havre) came to my house and surrounded it with six or eight officers and were about to kick down all four doors when a tenant came out and asked what was going on. The exercise was after my son-in-law.
Now you may think that is OK except for the fact he was put in a holding cell at the local jail three hours before. I was working in Great Falls that day and had I been home working and heard the doors being kicked in, I would probably have pulled my .45 and would either be dead or doing life without parole.
But there is no liability if no damage. When I told the mayor that the chief should be suspended without pay, he became enraged at the thought.
