Wrestling: Ronan slips past Libby in opener

The Libby High School wrestling team opened the season on Saturday with a 44-32 dual loss to Ronan.

The Loggers won six of the 13 matches that were decided on the mat. Four of those six were won by decision with two pins.

Cody Elliott at 135 pounds had the team’s fastest pin by sticking Cameron Neiss in 1:37. At 125, Mike Roby pinned Cody Johnson in 4:24.

Mitchell Haugen had a 10-2 decision over Shelby Grant at 130 pounds. Kyle Sweedman started the season well with a 12-2 decision over Tyler Wheeler at 171 pounds. Rigo Ibarra muscled his way to a 5-1 win over Colby Roberts at 215 pounds. Lucas Puckett took care of business against Aran Yazzle with a 4-1 decision at heavyweight.

Libby was scheduled to host Polson on Tuesday at Ralph Tate Gymnasium. The Greenchain will also wrestle at home on Thursday against Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and on Saturday at the Superior Tournament.
