Troy police officer Bob McLeod went back to work Friday after being on administrative leave for two weeks concerning a civil lawsuit launched against him alleging improper use of a Taser.

A three-person committee reviewed evidence and interviewed McLeod on Thursday, recommending to the Troy mayor that he be reinstated. The committee was made up of in-coming Troy mayor Don Banning, retired law enforcement officer and in-coming city judge Allen Dye, and Troy businessman Sam Shupe.

Troy resident Alfred “A.J.” Haflich filed the suit in federal court Nov. 17, alleging that McLeod used a Taser on him solely to quiet him down as he was handcuffed and seatbelted in the backseat of McLeod’s cruiser.

In other Troy Police Department news, chief Mitch Walters turned his letter of resignation in on Wednesday, effective at the end of the month. Walters and the remaining TPD officer, Kit Pearson, are under investigation by the state concerning a conversation they inadvertently broadcast on their radio.
