Letter: Hunting proposal unethical at its core

| August 20, 2009 12:00 AM

Dear Editor:

I am writing to express my concern and disgust over Don Wilkins’ guest editorial last week. Not only does it propose illegal hunting but its core message is unethical.

You may recall it was trophy hunters and those afraid of “the big bad wolf’ who caused the near extinction of wolves and other indigenous animals around Yellowstone and other western states in the first place.

Mr. Wilkins can cry about the reintroduction of wolves, but the natural balance is being restored, that’s all. He can complain about having them “force fed” to Montana, but I bet he doesn’t complain about the federal land being used by ranchers or the predation compensation for those federally fattened cows!

The sense of entitlement that oozes from his piece is sickening, and really negates any reasonable argument about hunting and animal control.

Issues such as America’s wildlife are no longer a cause of the fringe. This type of nihilistic attitude toward a species is not fair or tolerable any longer.
