Wildfire mitigation meeting scheduled

The Governor’s Office of Community Service invites the community to a wildfire mitigation informational meeting Tuesday, Aug. 25 in the Ponderosa Room at City Hall.

The first half of the event from 5-7 p.m. will focus on fire preparedness, insurance, volunteering and more. The second half from 7-9 p.m. will provide “Map Your Neighborhood Training,” an emergency preparedness exercise.

Parenting program coming to Libby

Libby Public Schools is hosting a free presentation entitled “Parenting With Dignity” on Tuesday, Aug. 25 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Memorial Center.

Mac Bledsoe, father of NFL quarterback Drew Bledsoe, is the speaker. Bledsoe is a motivational speaker and founder of the Parenting With Dignity program.

Libby church to host dramatic performance

The Christ Lutheran Church in Libby will host “The Gospel of Luke” with Michael Reardon and Patrick Lane on Thursday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m.

The dramatic presentation features a contemporary translation of scripture in the oral tradition of the early church, designed with music, lighting and costuming. A reception to meet the artists will follow.

Reardon, a native of Anaconda, has memorized the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John as well as the Book of Revelation and performs them dramatically worldwide. Lane, a native of Morrill, Neb., is director, musician and lighting artist. He designed the special effects and wrote the original music.

The program will last two hours. A freewill offering will be received for the performance.

Christ Lutheran Church is located at 200 W. Larch St.

Nordicfest sponsoring coloring contest

Nordicfest is sponsoring a children’s coloring contest for ages 4-9. Cash prizes and ribbons will be awarded in three different age categories. Only 25 entries for each category will be accepted and there is a $1 entry fee.

Registration will take place only on Friday, Sept. 11 from 3:30-5 p.m. at Libby Middle School during Youth Runnerfell. No late entries will be accepted. Proof of registration will be given to participants and they will need to bring it with them to the Memorial Center on Saturday, Sept. 12. Each age group will have their designated time to color between 1-4 p.m.

Winners will be announced and prizes awarded on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 12:45 p.m. Participants do not need not to be present to win.

Lutheran church plans Bible school event

St. John Lutheran Church is hosting a “Mini” Vacation Bible School on Wednesday, Aug. 26 from 1-4:30 p.m.

Children ages 3-11 are invited to attend the afternoon of learning and fun. The theme will be, “Jesus, The Living Water.” Water play (weather permitting) in the church park will follow Bible School activities. Participants should bring a towel, swimsuit or change of clothes.

Although not mandatory, organizers strongly recommend pre-registration by Aug. 24.

Church of God hosting fun shoot

The Church of God will host a fun shoot on Saturday, Aug. 22 at the Libby Rifle Range.

The shoot will run from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. and is open to everyone.

Fundraisers for Cano family Sunday

Two fundraising activities are coming up in Libby on Sunday, Aug. 23 to help the family of Giovanni Cano, a 10-year-old boy fighting leukemia.

A soccer camp with Libby High School’s state championship team and former semipro player from Mexico, Marcos Vences, will run from 1-5 p.m. at Asa Wood School.

Following at 6 p.m. will be a fundraising dinner at the Libby Senior Citizens Center. A silent auction is planned for that evening.

All proceeds will go to the Cano family.

Kootenai Karacters’ presentation coming

The Kootenai Karacters’ presentation of “The Boarding House” is coming to the Little Theatre in Libby.

The play, directed by Shanda Jennings, is scheduled for Sept. 10 (7 p.m.), Sept. 11 (7 p.m.) and Sept. 12 (2 and 7 p.m.).

LEA negotiations meeting scheduled

Libby Public Schools announced that a Libby Education Association negotiations meeting is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 21 at the Central Administration Building.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.

Bowling league meetings upcoming

Local bowling leagues have organized meetings this month at Lincoln Lanes in Libby.

The following meetings are scheduled: Monday, Aug. 24, 7 p.m.; Tuesday, Aug. 25, 10 a.m.; Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2 and 7 p.m.; Thursday Ladies, Aug. 27, 7 p.m.; and Friday Mixed, Aug. 28, 7 p.m.

School supply donations needed

Libby Care Center residents will be holding a back to school drive for students in grades K-3.

Those willing to donate items are asked to drop them off to the care center before the distribution date of Aug. 27. Supplies needed include backpacks, crayons, pencils, pencil bags or boxes, glue sticks and Kleenex.

Grief support group to next meet Aug. 27

The Helping Hearts Grief Support Group plans to meet on Thursday, Aug. 27 at St. Luke’s Parish Hall in Libby.

The group welcomes men and women who have lost a loved one. The group is currently using a series entitled, “Journeying Through Grief,” which offers insight and comfort beyond what family members may be able to provide.

Meetings are held on the fourth Thursday each month. St. Luke’s Parish Hall is located at 109 W. Poplar.
