Trojan boys, girls 4th at invitational

Based on early results this track season, Troy High School appears to have a pretty good 1-2 punch going in the sprints and jumps with Allie Maestas and Molly Harpole.

At last week’s Thompson Falls Invitational, the Trojan tandem scored all 80 of Troy’s team points and garnered seven top three finishes.

Maestas won the long jump (14 feet, 10 inches), placed second in both the 200 (29.36 seconds) and 400 (1:07.20) and took third in the 100 (14.09). Harpole won the 100 (13.80), took second in the long jump (14-5) and was third in the 200 (29.60).

Thompson Falls won the meet with 109 points, followed by Charlo, Eureka and Troy in a close battle for second. Eight schools participated.

On the boys’ side, Aaron Palmer approached the 200-foot mark in the javelin but just missed with a 197-2. Naturally, that mark was good for first place. He also won the high jump (6-0), placed second in the triple jump (41-1) and took fourth in the long jump (19-2).

Scotty Harper won the long jump with a distance of 20-5 3/4. Jake Alexander also contributed points with a sixth-place showing in the same event (18-3). Harper also had a fifth-place finish in the triple jump (39-8) and a fifth place in the 100-meter dash (12.17).

Jacob Lopez continued to shine in long distance with a victory in the 3200-meter run. Lopez covered the distance in 11:49 to win by 39 seconds over the runner-up finisher.

Ryan Rayson placed third in the high jump (5-10) and Cullen Metz had a fourth-place showing in the shot put (43-6 1/2).

As a team, Troy ended up fourth with 75 points, just one point behind third-place Eureka. Thompson Falls easily won with 147 points and Charlo was second with 112.
