Libby wrestlers compete at Butte tourney

Twelve of 15 Libby Wrestling Club athletes finished among the top six at the Smith/McCarthy Memorial Tournament in Butte this past Saturday.

Garret Chapel (Novice 100), Christian Dewine (School Boy 136) and Austin Bailey (Cadet 152) each finished with first-place honors in their divisions.

Other wrestlers earning places in their respective divisions included Cody Crace (sixth), Isaiah Sickler (sixth), Zach Crace (fifth), Levi Erickson (second), Josh Bowers (fourth), Michael Dennison (fourth), Eric Thrift (second), Mitch Haugen (second) and Dylan Berget (fourth).

The coach pointed out the efforts of 6-year-old Cody Crace, who surprised by taking sixth out of 17 in the Bantam 55 classification. He won his first three matches by pin before settling for sixth.

This weekend, the team will travel to Kalispell for a two-day tournament that will feature both Greco-Roman and freestyle.
