The wet weather in northwestern Montana continued to wreak havoc on the Troy High School softball program last week.

First, the scheduled season opener on April 3 was cancelled to move things back a week. Troy did get onto the field at home this past Thursday against Thompson Falls in a 12-1 defeat but further cancellations and postponements occurred on Friday, Saturday and Monday.

Alicia Anderson went the distance on the mound for the Lady Trojans.

“Alicia … seemed to tire in the late innings, probably because we had only three days of practice on our field before our first game,” THS coach Russ Thompson said. “We also committed five errors which I am sure will be improved with more practice and game experience.”

Getting time on the field is pivotal for the Lady Trojans with so many underclassmen on the roster.

“We have only four returning starters from last year and all of our other players have JV experience and five are first-year players,” Thompson said. “I am optimistic that we have the potential to compete with most teams we play this year.”

Ashley Paasch collected Troy’s first hit of the season with an RBI double in the first inning. Alyssa Olds had a single for the Trojans’ only other hit.

Thompson said he was pleased with the first five innings against Thompson Falls. One of the stronger teams in Class B, the visitors trailed until the third inning and was up just 5-1 through five. Thompson Falls put together a big sixth to pull away.

Games scheduled for Friday in Plains against Drummond and on Saturday at home against Florence were postponed. Monday’s scheduled contest at home against Plains was also postponed. The athletic department was trying to set up dates to make up those games.

Although the schedule could change this week because of makeup games, as of Monday morning the next contest for Troy is set for Friday at home against Loyola.
