The Libby High School softball team played on its home field for the first time on Saturday and took a 9-5 loss to Frenchtown.

The Lady Loggers defeated Frenchtown, 6-5, in last year's Class A state championship game. The pitcher who suffered the loss on that day, Shelby Russ, had a big afternoon in the Broncs' season opener. On the mound, she fanned a dozen and at the plate, she went 3-for-5 with three runs and four RBIs – including a two-run homer.

Libby's Alysha Martin had two hits and Candace Hendrickson went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Taylor Armstrong went the distance at pitcher for the Loggers, suffering the loss one day after beating Whitefish in the team's season opener, 17-7, on Friday.

The Loggers played Timberlake later on Saturday.
