Letter: Parent thanks officer for helping with son

| September 26, 2008 12:00 AM

Dear Editor:

I just want to personally thank Kit Pearson of the Troy Police Department for actually doing his job.

I had an issue of parental interference where my son was taken from Troy to Washington. The other parent refused to return the child. It was one of the hardest months I can remember.

But Kit Pearson of our small police department went out of his way to ensure the law was followed where other police in Washington dismissed it as a civil matter.

This was the second time the father took the child. The first time was when our son was about 2 and it took me almost six years to locate him eventually getting full custody.

This is a serious problem that police and prosecutors don't want to get involved in, not even our own prosecutor was real interested at first to get involved. I fought the court in Washington and the child was supposed to be returned to Montana but the father still did not return him.

But Kit did his job and I thank him for that. We need more police (public servants) to enforce all laws not just the ones they feel like doing. There are not enough police like him. I think he would be a great chief of police.

Thank you, Kit, again for getting my son returned safely to me.
