Letter: Keep one foot on solid ground

| October 24, 2008 12:00 AM

Dear Editor:

Beware of the 'mendacious fox.' He has learned to cackle like a hen and claims the ability to lay eggs. Don't put him in charge of the flock!

His plan is to re-distribute the feed necessary for the good of the whole. The members of the flock that disdain the efforts to scratch for themselves will live off of and consume the efforts of the energetic. The American dream of home ownership doesn't belong to the unambitious.

Industry and frugality are the tools of home ownership. Those that make money out of manipulation of real property have no stake in the ownership of said property and gain from transactions regardless of the merits of ownership. There is no God-given right to own a home without sacrifice and industry by the prospective owner.

Credit without the means to support it is quicksand. Test the edges of each offer keeping one foot on solid ground. Boldly stepping to a credit arrangement without secure footing for getting out is consuming and dangerous.

Beware of the mendacious fox.

Hal Cole
