Letter: Pit bulls can be scary animals

| October 3, 2008 12:00 AM

Dear Editor:

I felt the need to write about the dog issue: Pit bull vs. American bulldog.

I am a dog lover of most breeds. There are some though that do scare me. Pit bull is a breed that fits that category. There have been too many people hurt, maimed and killed by this type of dog. A rose by any other name is still a rose ' a pit bull by any other name can still be a dog that can do some major damage to an adult or child.

I remember the story of the woman killed in San Francisco. She was first bit by the dogs, then she was mauled to death by them. Their owners swore up and down their pit bulls were as gentle as the new fallen snow.

Pit bulls/American bulldog can lock their jaws and short of just beating the tar out of them to get them to unlock their jaws, someone can be in some serious trouble ' again be it an adult or child.

I know of a pit bull that was raised from a pup, when this dog got older, he got mean and would snap and bite at anyone. Not a good pet in my book.

I understand loving your pets of which I have no problem. The best solution here is if this gal wants to keep her pit bull/American bulldog, then move outside the city limits. There are no regulations there in regard to this type of dog.
