Lady Loggers just one win from championship match

The Libby High School volleyball team opened the Class A state tournament in Bozeman on a high note with thrilling victories over Belgrade and Billings Central.

The Lady Loggers have advanced to the winner's bracket semifinals where they will face defending state champion Lewistown on Friday at 6 p.m.

Libby opened the tournament Thursday afternoon with a 21-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-22, 15-11 victory over Belgrade. The Lady Loggers had to rally from a 2-1 deficit in games to secure the win over Belgrade, the No. 2 seed out of the Central Division.

Meanwhile, Billings Central, the No. 2 seed out of the East, advanced after a victory over the Southwest's top seed, Anaconda, 25-19, 25-19, 25-13.

Libby and Billings Central then squared off Thursday evening. The Loggers took a win in a marathon of a match, 25-22, 19-25, 25-23, 19-25, 17-15.

Other early Thursday winners included Dillon over Miles City, 25-20, 20-25, 26-24, 25-16; and Lewistown over Polson, 25-16, 25-17, 25-19.

In Thursday evening's early winner's bracket game, Lewistown defeated Dillon, 25-19, 21-25, 25-11, 25-17, to set up Friday's meeting with the Loggers.
