Timber Beast Disc Golf Tournament June 21 in Troy

The third annual Troy Timber Beast Disc Golf Tournament will take place Saturday, June 21, at Troy Disc Golf Park.

Registration opens at 8 a.m.

At 6 p.m. Friday, there will be a practice random doubles tournament at the park as well as registration.

The tournament has grown from 72 players the first year to 91 players last year. Nearly 130 are expected this year. The event was voted the No. 1 disc golf tournament in Montana last year, according to a survey by Garden City Flyers Disc Golf Club. The club is the state’s largest disc golf club.

This year, the tournament will be a part of two Series Cups. It will be one of seven tournaments in the Montana Point Series and one of nine in the Inland Northwest Point Series from Washington. Players will come as far as Billings, Seattle and Idaho Falls.

Entertainment will begin at 6 p.m. at Osprey Pavilion. Bands will include 2 Guys Jammin Hard from Missoula, Andre Floyd and Mood Iguana from Kalispell and Blue Melon Blues Band from Hamilton. There will be a $5 charge to hear bands.

This also will be the second year for the Disc’s Across the Kootenai Fiasco, where players attempt to throw discs from a 60-foot cliff across the river into Roosevelt Park for a cash prize. Last year, two out of 20 made successful throws across the 520-foot river span.

On the same day, a Northwest Rugby tournament will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at Roosevelt Park soccer field. It is open to the public.

There will be free camping at Roosevelt Park and food vendors available from 5 to 10 p.m.

The divisions for the tournament are the cash prizes include Pro Men $45, Pro Master $45, Advanced Men $35, Advanced Master $30, Advanced Grand Master $30, Intermediate Men $30, Advance Women $25, Juniors $25 and Ace Pot $25.

All entrants will receive a tournament T-shirt and a tournament Innova Disc. There will also be a competition to win a portable disc golf basket.

Proceeds will benefit the Troy Fine Arts Music in the Park Series.
