Harold T. (Grumpy) Chappel, Jr.

Harold spent the last weeks looking for the perfect truck to follow his father and friends on the final run.

A brave battle against mesothelioma finished his multil-million journeys around the 11 western states.

He was with his loving family at his home in Seattle when he quietly passed away on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008.

He is survived by his wife of over 50 years Kathleen (Kate) Chappel; Harold's siblings Alice and her husband Mike Grunerud, William and his wife Myhra Chappel; Harold's children: Jodi and her husband Kenny Kellar, Andi Chappel, Marsi and her husband Paul George, Jack Chappel, Glenn Chappel and his wife Tami; grandchildren: Joe and his wife Trisha Kellar, CJ and Tara Millro, Seth Loch-Chappel; great-grandchildren Logan and Ethan Keller.

Harold was born in Libby to Harold Sr. and Mary Chappel in July 1936. He worked in the Libby area until he relocated to Seattle in 1966 where he worked for various trucking companies. Harold was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and Korean Occupation. Avid Chief engineer of the Phinney Hill & Northern and Idaho Western Railway, which he operated from his home until his death. He will be greatly missed by all.
