JV Trojans defeat Thompson Falls in OT
The Junior Varsity Trojans defeated Thompson Falls last Friday in overtime at home, 31-29. It was a freethrow that won it.
"Between aggressiveness, free throws and teamwork, they're unbeatable," said JV coach Sheila Etienne, "but they have to have those things together."
Etienne said the team, comprised of four sophomores and freshmen, have started from "the floor up."
"Most of the teams we've played are sophomores and juniors," she said. "We've improved so much."
"Support from the parents and fans has been great," added Etienne, who started coaching this year and played basketball in high school and college.
"There's not one gal that is a standout - it's a team effort," she said. "It's not my coaching that did it," she said, referring to her team's improvement, "it's when they decide to play as a team."
Etienne also gave Coach Troy DeBoard credit, saying the JV and Varsity team are "like one big family."
When she's not coaching or watching her daughter, Megan, play on the varsity team, she drives for the Transportation Department of Lincoln County, working during the summer for the U.S. Forest Service.
