Roger L. Bernhard

Roger L. Bernhard, 73, a lifetime resident of the Tobacco Valley, died Wednesday, Jan. 9 at Mountain View Manor in Eureka. Roger was born in Eureka on Nov. 10, 1934 to Xennie Bernhard and Agnes (Mathis) Bernhard.

He was raised and educated in Eureka, graduating from Lincoln County High School in 1952.

He worked briefly for the railroad and later in the Christmas tree business until being employed by the Kennedy-Stevens -Owens & Hurst Lumber Company in Eureka.

For many years, he had been a distributor for Meadowgold Dairy Products in the area until his retirement in 1996.

He had been a pinochle player extraordinaire and an avid fan of Eureka Lions Sports.

Roger enjoyed spending time visiting with friends and, in later years, spending great amounts of time visiting with friends who were residents of Mountain View Manor.

He had been a member of the First Baptist Church since his childhood.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister Helen Doble and brother Cecil.

He is survived by his children: Scott Bernhard and his wife Marion of Rexford, Melani Kirkedahl and her husband Scott of Trego, and Leonard Bernhard of Olympia, Wash.; a sister Beverly O'Brien and her husband Louie of Libby; and brothers Maurice of Eureka and Allen of Libby; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were held on Saturday, Jan. 12 at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Pat Lovitt officiating. Interment services followed at Tobacco Valley Cemetery.
