Thanking the community

| January 4, 2008 11:00 PM

To the Editor:

With the recent decision of the Montana Transportation Commission, the speed limit will be reduced from 70 mph to 55 mph along the entire stretch of Montana Highway 56 from the south end of Bull Lake to just north of Angel Island Road.

This announcement is really quite amazing because our speed-limit-reduction project really got started only in September of 2006, barely more than one year ago.

For the terrific support from the folks living along Montana Highway 56, who showed up at our informational meeting at Little Joe's, who met with the Montana Dept. of Transportation folks, and who took the time to show up at County Commissioners' meetings and speak out, who wrote letters and even contributed money, thank you all!

Your energy and passion for this project was crucial to our success.

Thank you, Lincoln County Board of Commissioners. You supported us every inch of the way and stuck to your guns: 55 mph on Montana Highway 56 along Bull Lake!

Thank you also Montana Dept. of Transportation, for coming to Angel Island to see for yourselves our situation and for being easily available to answer our questions and keep us up to date.

Community of Savage Lake, thank you! Your work and Dan Larson's advocacy as the District 1 Transportation Commissioner reduced the speed limit along Savage Lake.

Your successful action set a precedent which, we believe, helped our campaign move along very quickly. We are extremely grateful.

Drive safely! Bull Lake Speed Limit Committee.
