Snokats Fun Run revs up weekend

A 40-year tradition will be continuing on the trails of the East Fork of Pipe Creek this weekend with the annual Lincoln County Snokats Fun Run on Saturday.
Starting in 1968, the Snokats Fun Run began to support grooming of the trails, said Lincoln County Snokats President Donna O'Neil. Of the nearly 500 miles of classified snowmobile trails in the area, 164 miles are consistently groomed by the group's groomer. Most of the areas are groomed weekly.
Participants in the Fun Run follow an approximate 25-mile loop on a groomed route. They may ride double and bring their children.
"It's a family event," O'Neil said. "Kids can bring their sleds, it's a gradual, rolling area."
There is also a bonfire at the event and participants ride all day until 5 p.m. and then meet back at the Libby Elks Club for raffles and auctions. There are cash prizes and hundreds of dollars in other prizes, O'Neil added.
Participation levels are dependent on the weather, but there is "usually a good turnout" for the event, O'Neil said.
Riders may sign up for the event when they arrive and they must go through different stations throughout the day. Registration is from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday at East Fork, which is 18 miles up Pipe Creek Road.
"We invite everyone to come out and have a good time," O'Neil added.
