Thumbs Up

Food pantry volunteers

Thumbs up food pantry volunteers for their work to help families in need enjoy holiday meals. It’s also natural to thank those who donate to the program so the food pantry can do its work but those folks on the front lines deserve a pat on the back.

Besides those that fill bags with goods to give away, locals like Marvin Fenimore of the Libby Food Pantry contribute in ways such as retrieving deer killed on roadways so it can be processed and the meat used in a beneficial manner.

Lady Loggers volleyball

Thumbs up to the Libby High School volleyball team’s third-place showing at the Class A state tournament. The Lady Loggers turned heads early on with back-to-back, hard-fought victories in the first two matches before dropping a decision to the eventual champions.

Libby got better and better each week, overcame a few obstacles and proved that it belonged among the best in the state.

Troy’s walking/cycling path

Thumbs up to Troy mayor Jim Hammons and the city’s work toward bringing a walking/cycling path to the community. Although it’s still early, it appears that the path has a good chance of becoming a reality if funding comes through and an agreement is finalized with the railroad.

An interesting aspect of the project is increasing safety. Kids have been known to cross wherever they want instead of going down to the Third Street crossing.

Holiday cheer in communities

Thumbs up to all of the clubs, organizations and individuals that make Libby and Troy such a cheerful place over the holidays.

Not long after the last of the turkey leftovers disappeared from the fridge, we had Santa Claus popping up in various places and school children singing on stages. We hope readers will enjoy our upcoming Dec. 24 edition that will feature photos from several events.
