Libby wrestlers win Superior Invitational

The Libby High School wrestling squad had a good week with a double-dual sweep in Idaho on Thursday and a first-place showing in the Superior Invitational on Saturday.
The Loggers racked up 203 points to earn the first-place trophy at the Superior Invite. Kyle Sweedman, Seth Wright, Justin Graham and Brandin Mills each won their weight divisions.
“Ronan was supposed to be there and we wanted to see how much we had improved but they turned around because of the weather,” LHS coach Jay Graham said about the tournament. “We were physical and aggressive and won by over 50 points. I’m very pleased with them.”
Sweedman took an 8-4 decision over Kyle Steinebach of Plains in 1:05 in the championship bout at 152 pounds. Wright pinned his opponent, Chris Stobie of Plains, in just 1:05 for first place at 171.
The Loggers then took back-to-back individual titles at the two heaviest weights with Graham at 215 and Mills at heavyweight. Graham pinned Cyle Cook of Eureka in 1:34 and Mills stuck Nick Widdicombe of Big Sky JV in 1:36.
Libby’s margin of victory was 50.5 points over runner-up Frenchtown. St. Ignatius finished third, followed by Cut Bank, Big Sky JV, Arlee, Thompson Falls, Plains, Eureka, Superior and Noxon.
Levi Edwards-Myslicki at 125 pounds and Lucas Puckett at 189 pounds each had runner-up finishes. Loggers taking third included Kyle Leir at 130 and Josiah Coker at 160. Finishing fourth were Casey Graff at 98, Michael Roby at 119 and Cody Elliot at 135.
“Each match we get just a little more physical,” Coach Graham said. “Our conditioning, it shows.”
Libby swept two opponents on Thursday during a double dual at Bonners Ferry, Idaho. The Loggers defeated the host school, 55-21. Roby, Coker, Graham and Mills all won by pin. Edwards-Myslicki, Sweedman and Wright all won with easy decisions. Forfeit victories went to Graff, Leir and Puckett.
In a 66-22 win over Sandpoint, Idaho, Libby wrestlers winning by pin included Edwards-Myslicki, Sweedman and Wright. Roby and Leir won on decisions. Graff, Elliot, Charlie Berget, Puckett and Graham all won by forfeit.
The Loggers headed to Columbia Falls on Tuesday in a dual staged after the newspaper’s presstime. The next competition for Libby comes Friday and Saturday at the Tri-State Tournament at Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Libby will take four wrestlers to that premiere wrestling event. The rest of the team on Saturday will compete in a tournament at Eureka.
