Letter: Property owner upset over asbestos cleanup
Dear Editor:
Like everyone else, when it was time for the asbestos cleanup, I was ready. I had put in a front and back sidewalk with two sets of stairs and had an old sidewalk that was in good shape.
I then had the subcontractors for CDM before me and told them the sidewalk was new – not to damage it. Well, to make a long story short, they gouged and broke pieces off my old sidewalk and knocked chunks off the new stairs.
They stated that the repairs were good and guaranteed it for one year. I asked if it was so good why was the guarantee only good for one year? I went to Riley Construction, who did an excellent job of putting in the sidewalk and steps, and asked if repairs were as good as new, and he said no.
Furthermore, I told CDM not to take out trees and they removed a part of them anyway. Their answer was to put in seedlings, which was not acceptable. I have four beautiful Colorado blue spruce in my yard and the exhaust from their machinery burned big holes in them. They said the trees would get over the damage in three to five years.
I also had a hedge out of pine that I’ve had for years and they burned one tree so bad it won’t recover. No recovery of damage here. Also they took an ornamental birdbath made out of concrete and rock, and a waterfall, and put it in the junk pile. Their solution? Go get a plastic one from a hardware store for $250. Not acceptable.
They put in grass (hydro-seed), then their truck left big ruts driving on it. They moved a trailer and ruined the tires. So, my response is CDM will clean up asbestos and destroy your property.
Don’t expect them to not do the work shoddily or stand by damages. Beware.
