Treasure Tones concert hits Libby Dec. 14

Libby’s Treasure Tones will present its annual Christmas concert on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m., at the Memorial Center.

Joining the Treasure Tones as guest performers will be Lorraine Braun’s Middle School Select Choir and Libby High School choir’s Cabinet Mountain Singers. Tony Smith and his newly organized Going to the Sun Singers will also showcase their talents with the choral ensemble.

The Treasure Tones also welcome the Junior Treasure Tones – six middle school-aged singers – to join them in bringing Christmas to the community in a variety of musical styles.

No admission is charged but a cash donation is requested for the benefit of the Libby Food Pantry.

American Cancer Society seeks volunteer coordinator

The American Cancer Society is looking for a volunteer coordinator in the Libby-Troy area for its Road to Recovery program.

The program provides free transportation for cancer patients to and from treatment appointments, including those out-of-town.

Baucus staffers to be at City Hall Thursday

Members of Sen. Max Baucus’ staff will be on hand at City Hall in Libby from 1-2 p.m., on Thursday, Dec. 11.

Residents are invited to voice their opinions on issues that matter to them or to get help with federal agencies.

Libby Asbestos team leader to be introduced

The Environmental Protection Agency’s Community Advisory Group will meet on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m., in the Ponderosa Room at Libby City Hall.

The agenda includes the introduction of Victor Ketellapper as the new Libby team leader. Other discussion involves the drafting of a letter to be sent to Sen. Max Baucus and agency reports.

VFW Auxiliary bingo payout to include hams

The Libby VFW No. 1548 Auxiliary plans to give away hams for its bingo payout for regular games on Tuesday, Dec. 16, publicity chairperson Stella Sharp announced.

Game time starts at 7 p.m., in the smoke-free community room of the VFW Post (114 W. Second St.).

Elks schedules Christmas event for Dec. 18

The annual Elks Christmas event in Libby is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand with gifts for children. Baked treats, hot coffee and cocoa will be served. Bring a camera for pictures.

The Elks Lodge, Fathers and Families Making Changes, and Families In Partnership sponsor the event.

Diabetes self-care education programs this month

St. John’s Nutrition and Diabetes Support Services will be presenting two more classes in December.

“What to Eat? Carbohydrate Counting” will be Thursday, Dec. 11 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. “Keeping a Healthy Heart” will be Wednesday, Dec. 17 from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Montana author publishes new book

A familiar face from speaking engagements at Libby Public Library and the Libby Rotary Club has published a new book.

Anne Millbrooke of Bozeman is the author of the just-released “Abbreviations, Acronyms, and Alphabets of Aviation, a Guide to Contemporary and Historical Terms Found in Aviation Literature.”

The 700-page reference work has more than 12,000 shorthand expressions used in aviation over time, with the full expression and explanations about when and where a term was used.

Millbrooke also authored, “Aviation History.” Her latest book is available through Amazon.com and other booksellers online.
