Holiday events hit full stride Friday, Saturday

Holiday cheer will envelope Libby and Troy on Friday and Saturday with a flurry of Christmas events for residents and visitors.

It all begins on Friday in Libby with the annual Parade of Lights down Mineral Avenue. The parade is scheduled to line up at 5:30 p.m., in front of the Memorial Center (call 293-4167 or 293-6285 for information).

Following the parade, the St. John’s Hospice 20th annual Tree of Lights ceremony will be staged at 7 p.m., at the Memorial Center. The event includes the calling of names of loved ones (call 293-0180 for information).

Another post-parade activity will be the serving of cookies and cider at the Libby Care Center. The goodies will be available from 7-9 p.m.

The fun continues on Saturday with events in both Troy and Libby.

The annual Troy Christmas Tree lighting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Saturday at Second Street and Kootenai Avenue. Santa Claus will make an appearance and hot chocolate and cookies will be served.

In Libby on Saturday night, the Northwest Ballet School and Company’s production of “The Nutcracker Suite” takes the stage at the Memorial Center. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the performance scheduled to begin at 7.
