The Western News

Libby High School’s Jason Schikora brought home first-place honors in the Humorous Solo division at the recent Kalispell Invitational’s David M. Hashley Drama Tournament.

The invitational, which has been held annually since 1969, is one of the season’s largest events. It pits teams from small schools against students competing on large, powerhouse teams, which presents challenges and opportunities for improvement.

Nearly 500 high school students from across western Montana and Washington competed in the Hashley Drama Tournament, as well as the Kalispell Speech and Debate Invitational. The event was co-hosted by Flathead and Glacier high schools.

Schikora’s first-place showing in the Hashley tourney’s Humorous Solo division was accompanied by a fifth-place finish by Libby’s Jolee Holder.

Cassie Moog and Stephanie Parsons combined their talents for a second-place finish in Humorous Duo. Libby had a very strong showing in Serious Solo with three placings – Stormy Miller in third, Stormy Naylor in fifth and Stephanie Shuey in seventh.

In the Serious Duo division, Libby’s Elizabeth Rogers and Mike Wise placed third, and fellow Loggers Amber Bowers and Melinda Elgin took sixth. And in Classical Duo, Kammi McClain and Andi Moog teamed up for fifth place.
