Libby Loggers beat Whitefish, undefeated for season

The Lady Loggers played Columbia Falls on Friday in Columbia Falls and won in three games 25-17, 25-14 and 25-18.

"The girls did good," said Libby volleyball coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnston. "They did a good job of picking up the momentum instead of losing it."

The team had 16 aces with a serving percentage of 87, which Ostrem-Johnston would like to see improved.

Jackie Mee led the team in aces with 5 and Shelby Barton had 4. Barton also had a 100 percent serving percentage.

There were 28 kills, with Mee taking 9 and Brooke Hageness with 8. Mee also had a 350 attack percentage and Hageness had an attack percentage of 571. The team attack percentage was 310. Laice Dedrick had 6 kills and a 333 attack percentage.

The team made 24 assists, with Barton leading with 18 and Nichole Newman with 2. The team came away with 6 blocks and had the best blocking percentage of the season, Ostrem-Johnston said. Mee and Dedrick each had 3 assists.

There were 27 digs, with Dedrick coming away with 8 and Megan Wedel with 5. The team also had a serve receive ratio of 2.3 out of 3.0. Hageness had a perfect serve receive ratio of 3.0, Dedrick had a 2.57 ratio and Newman with a 2.38 ratio.

On Saturday, the Lady Loggers played against Whitefish.

"They came in undefeated along with us," Ostrem-Johnston said. "We sent them off with their first loss."

The Loggers won in four with scores of 25-18, 28-26, 23-25 and 25-17.

The team came away with 13 aces, with Hageness taking 4 and Barton with 3. Barton also had a 100 percent serving percentage.

There were 56 kills with 14 each from Dedrick and Mee. Dedrick had a 294 attack percentage and Mee had a 333 attack percentage. Hageness had 10 kills and Crysta Quinn with 7.

"Crysta did some great things at the net," Ostrem-Johnston added.

The team came away with 50 assists, with Barton completing 46. There were 3 blocks throughout the game with Quinn getting 2 and Dedrick with 1.

There were 50 digs, with Wedel taking 17, Hageness with 13 and Dedrick with 10.

"It was a great team effort," Ostrem-Johnston said. "Laice had her best match of the year. The girls recognized in the locker room that there is plenty of room to improve. But, they did a great job of keeping their emotions in check and I'm proud of them for handling things mentally and showing their maturity."

The Lady Loggers are currently 4-0 in Conference and 5-0 overall.

The freshmen and junior varsity Loggers played Glacier High in Kalispell on Tuesday and play Polson in Polson on Thursday.
