Barbara J. Herman

Barbara J. Herman, 65, died Friday, Sept. 21 in Libby.

Barbara was born to Harley and Metta (Coats) Hawks in Hornel, N.Y. on July 16, 1942 and was raised and educated in the Wellsville, N.Y. area. She resided in Detroit, Mich. and later in western Washington before coming to the Libby area in 1972. She was employed by Burns Security as a guard at W.R. Grace & Co. while in the Libby area.

Barbara enjoyed the land. She liked to hunt, fish and garden.

Barbara also enjoyed sewing, canning and cooking. She loved her family deeply and is remembered by them as a person who had an affinity for "taking in" stray animals.

Barbara was preceded in death by husbands Joseph Weinman and Harold Hewson.

Surviving are her sons: James Weinman and his wife Ruby, and Donald Weinman, all of Libby; and Leo Weinman of Sterling, Colo.; daughters: Darlene Goucher and her husband Newt; and Tina Dunkel and her husband Lee, all of Bozeman; brothers: Arnold Hawks and Larry Hawks, both of Wellsville, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home Chapel with interment services to follow at Milnor Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Tuesday. A potluck reception will follow graveside services at the Door of Hope Church, 217 E Mineral Ave. in Troy.
