Lady Loggers lose to Polson

| September 21, 2007 12:00 AM

The Lady Logger Soccer team lost to the Polson Pirates in a close 2-1 defeat on Saturday in Polson.

The Pirates came out strong and Tasha Conrad scored in the 7th minute with an amazing goal from 20 yards. The Pirates continued to pressure, ending the first half with seven shots to the Logger's one.

The Loggers came out strong in the second half, controlling more of the game and repeatedly pressuring the Pirate defense.

The Loggers drew even with a goal in the 73rd minute when Anna Valentine, playing in her first game back from injury, finished a ball that was ricocheting around in the box. Unfortunately the Pirates recovered the lead a minute later from Heather Howell's penalty kick.

The Loggers ended the game with a total of seven shots and two corner kicks. Goalkeeper Audra Poppen had an outstanding game, making several dazzling saves such as tipping the ball around the post with her fingers. She received a hard knock to the head in the 68th minute but continued to play, making several more key saves and catching hard crosses.

The Loggers are looking forward to their upcoming games away against Bigfork on Thursday and against Whitefish on Saturday at home.
