Kathleen M. Belangie

Kathleen M. (Kay) Belangie, 94, a resident of the Kootenai Valley for the past 60 years, died Wednesday, Sept. 19 at the Libby Care Center. She was born to John and Afra (Lenz) Carabin on May 11, 1913 in Spokane, Wash.

The family moved to Butte in 1916 where Kay was raised and educated, graduating from Butte High School in 1931. She married Raymond Belangie in 1935 in Butte.

They remained in Butte until coming to Libby in 1947 where she has since resided and raised her family. Kay had been a longtime employee of the Credit Bureau of Libby, working there for 25 years until her retirement. She and her husband Ray had been longtime members of St. Joseph's Parish and had been actively involved in numerous church activities for many years. Her husband Ray preceded her in death in 1987 as well as her daughters, Judi Belangie Domino in 1995 and Sherrie Belangie Ward in 2001.

She is survived by six grandchildren: Jim Ward, John Ward, Dave Domino, Patti Ward, Mark Domino and Stefania Domino Nelson as well as seven great-grandchildren.

Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Jozef Perhubka as celebrant. Interment services will follow at the City of Libby Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home followed by a parish vigil and rosary at 7 p.m.
