Libby Loggers volleyball heads to Hamilton on Friday

The Libby Lady Logger volleyball team has had some promising showings in the last week during tournaments in Whitefish and against Glacier High School.

During the Whitefish tournament on Aug. 25, the Loggers played five teams in a round robin tournament with two games to 25. The team was 9 and 1 for the tournament, said Libby volleyball coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnston. In the first game against Whitefish, Libby scored 25-15 and 19-25. In game 2, Libby went up against Polson and scored 25-11 and 25-9. Bigfork was the opponent for game 3, with Libby scoring 25-14 and 25-14. In the fourth game, Libby competed against Flathead Home School and scored 25-9 and 25-19. Ronan was the final opponent for match 5, with Libby scoring 25-22 and 25-24. There were 43 aces throughout the tournament. Megan Wedel had 11 aces, Laice Dedrick had 7 and Jackie Mee also had 7 aces. The team served 87 percent throughout the tournament, with Mee serving 97 percent and Nichole Newman serving 92 percent. The team had 109 kills. Mee had 32 of those kills, Brooke Hageness had 30 and Dedrick had 21. The Loggers had 83 assists, with Shelby Barton making 76 of the assists. The team made 7 blocks and Mee made 5 of the blocks. There were 86 digs picked up by the team, with Wedel and Dedrick each making 21 of those blocks. Hageness had 19 digs. "Record wise it was a great tournament, playing wise it was a roller coaster ride," Ostrem-Johnston said. "There were a lot of peaks and valleys."Our goal is to stay more aggressive and intense, but we were able to fight through the slumps."In the Glacier match on Tuesday, Aug. 28, the Loggers played four games with Libby scoring 21-25, 25-9, 25-9 and 25-17. There were 16 aces, with Hageness making 10. Hageness served points 13-25 in game 2 and points 7-13 in game 3. She had an 89 serving percentage. "She was very focused and aggresive," Ostrem-Johnston said. There were 45 kills made during the Glacier match, with Mee making 13, Hageness with 9 Dedrick with 7 and Krista Quinn had 4 kills. Shelby Barton made 29 of the 32 assists during the Glacier game. There were 3 blocks made, with Mee making 2. Hageness made 9 of the 33 digs during the match and she also "passed really well," Ostrem-Johnston said. Wedel and Dedrick each made 7 digs. "We had a rough start and made poor choices and poor serves in the first two games," Ostrem-Johnston said. "I was very pleased with the last three games. We were aggressive and consistent."The Libby Loggers next play on Friday and Saturday at the Hamilton Tournament.
