Trojans fall to Savage Horsemen
Troy football coach Rich McElmurry said the 20-12 loss to Plains on Thursday, Oct. 11 was a close call, but time ran out in the end for the Trojans.
On a positive note, quarterback Aaron Palmer had 156 yards in rushing.
After the Trojans fumbled the second play of the game, the Plains-Hotspring Savage Horsemen ran the ball into the endzone for a 6-0 lead.
After several attempts, the Trojans responded with a touchdown in the first quarter.
The Trojans stopped the Savage Horsemens' next drive and made another touchdown, missing both their conversions, which put them up 12-6 at the half.
The Savage Horsemen scored in the third quarter, making their conversion and edging them above the Trojans, 13-12.
"It was later in the game, we had used up our timeouts, and we were down by one," McElmurry said. "We thought we would let them score with 1 1/2 minutes to go, so we would have a chance to score again."
With a 1:20 left in the game, the Trojans made it to the 9 yard line before time ran out, squelching their dream of a last second win.
