Myra E. Cole

Myra E. Cole, 81, died Thursday, Oct. 11 in Libby.

She was born in Medical Lake, Wash., on April 5, 1926 to William L. Hanley and Margie (Vinion) Hanley. Myra was raised and educated in Bonners Ferry, Idaho and graduated from high school there in 1944.

She worked in the Seattle shipyards and at Fairchild Air Force Base during World War II. She married Francis "Bud" Cole on Aug. 2, 1945 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spokane, Wash.

Myra and Bud came to Libby in September 1946 where they raised their family. She was an employee of Lincoln County, working in the assessor's office for many years until her retirement in 1983.

A longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church, Myra served in numerous capacities within the church. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and served as a volunteer at the Libby Care Center and St. John's Lutheran Hospital.

Her husband, Bud, preceded her in death in 2001.

Surviving are her children: Ed Cole and his wife Teresa of Calif., Tom Cole and his wife Melissa of Libby, Sue Miller of W. Va., Lynda Hanley-Cole of Spokane, Wash., and Rhonda Bache and her husband Russ of Ariz.; a brother, Jerry Hanley of Yucaipa, Calif.; sisters, Mary McAdam of Spokane, Bonnie Thomson of Tacoma, Wash., Shirley Taylor of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Sandra Jackson of Libby; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19 at St. John Lutheran Church. Interment services will follow at the City of Libby Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. on Thursday and until noon on Friday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
