Leave the memory of the deceased alone
To the Editor:
This letter is in response to a thoughtless statement made by Ben Schertel in a recent letter to the editor. I am referring to his statement regarding newspaper reports about Martin Bower. Mr. Schertel makes the statement, "The last editor who slandered him died recently." He then goes on to encourage the present editor to take back her statements.
Mr. Schertel demeans both God and Roger Morris by his statement. By insinuating that God struck Roger down for a newspaper article, he insults the very nature of a God of Grace and Forgiveness.
At the same time Mr. Schertel does not understand that Roger Morris was a good and decent human being who did a lot to help people in this community. His statement is an insult to Roger's memory.
I do not believe that God was taking vengence on Roger for this one article. If you believe Martin Bower has been slandered, you should suggest he pursue the matter legally. Leave the threats, God and Roger Morris's memory out of it.
