Where has all the integrity gone?

| November 8, 2007 11:00 PM

To the Editor:

I have never written a letter to a newspaper, on any issue, but something has occurred to change my mind.

On Saturday, Oct. 27, I received a telephone call informing me of the theft of a DVD/VCR combination player.

The item was brand new and had been donated to the Libby Community Thrift Store.

The volunteers working at the store so appreciate items donated and all the money made from these donations goes back into our community.

In 2006, we were able to give almost $9,000 to various organizations. We accomplished this through the combined efforts of many volunteers who gave so much of themselves.

Some of our volunteers are in their 80s and have health concerns, yet they are there to do whatever it takes to help the store continue to give to the community. I am so proud of each and every one of them.

I would like to ask the individual who stole our property if they have any idea how this makes us feel. Well, let me tell you, we feel betrayed and violated.

Our purpose for volunteering giving our time and efforts is to hopefully make a difference in the lives of people in our community.

What does a thief give to his or her community? If you lose your honesty and integrity, what do you have left?
