Robert W. Fowler

Robert W. Fowler, 87, died Friday, April 27 in Libby.

Bob was born Aug. 28, 1919 in Castle Rock to Jay Herbert Fowler and Olive (Trow) Fowler.

He came to Libby with his family at the age of 2. Bob graduated from Libby High School in 1938 and worked for the U.S. Forest Service and J. Neils Lumber Company from 1938 to 1940.

He went to Los Angeles, Calf., in 1941 to train as a diesel engineer.

He returned to Libby after serving in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945.

Except for a short time in Yakima, Wash., to attend a trade school, Bob was employed by J. Neils Lumber Company, subsequently St. Regis Paper Company, until he retired in 1981.

Bob married Adeline Hutton on May 26, 1951.

He served as an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church from 1965 to the present.

Bob is survived by wife, Adeline of Libby; sister, Lura Jordan of Andover, N.Y.; nieces, Crystal Blanchard and Mary Sahr, and a nephew, R. T. Winiarski.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers; Ted, and 2-year-old Wayne, sister, Luella, and mother-in-law Rhoda.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 9 at the First Presbyterian Church. Interment with military honors will follow in the City of Libby Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care of Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
