Fatality crash claims one east of Moyie Springs on U.S. 2

BONNERS FERRY, Idaho — A 34-year-old Troy, Mont., woman was killed Tuesday after her car went off the road east of Moyie Springs.

A passenger in the car received minor injuries.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at 7:49 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 2, just past the Moyie Springs Store.

According to an ISP press release, Lynn M. Smith was eastbound on U.S. 2 in a 1998 Mercury Sable when she failed to negotiate a curve, drifted off the right side of the roadway and rolled down an embankment.

Smith was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.

Her passenger, Toby J. Jones, also of Troy, was transported to Boundary Community Hospital for unknown injuries.

Jones was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to ISP.

According to a spokesperson from Boundary Community Hospital, Jones was treated and released, and then sent home.

Idaho State Police Troopers Leslie Lehman and Kevin Bennett, as well as sheriff's deputies and emergency personnel from Boundary County Ambulance, responded to the scene.
